DRS AG equips the first V-mini store with SCO cash registers

The trading company Georg Jos. Kaes (V-Märkte and V-Baumärkte), based in the Allgäu region of Germany, is focusing on a digital shopping experience with its new V-mini format. The first store, with an area of 400 square meters, opened in Kaufbeuren on November 10. It is an automated concept that relies on customers scanning their own merchandise and making cashless payments at the self-checkout (SCO). An employee is only responsible for putting the goods away and assisting customers with questions about the assortment and technology.
The new small-space concept for V-Markt was developed and implemented within three quarters of a year. Self-checkout tills, fully automated access via EC or credit card and cloud-based management software to control the store enable a digital shopping experience around the clock.

As a proven partner, DRS AG implemented the software for the checkout solution. The solution is based on the drs//POS checkout system in use at V-Markt. The SCO variant behaves exactly like a "normal" checkout cash register, so that for V-Markt the questions regarding master data supply, cash register accounting, connection of reverse vending machines and scales, integration of customer loyalty systems, receipt archiving, inventory management, monitoring of operations, etc. had already been answered.
Another advantage of drs//POS: The self-checkout variant can be switched to operating mode and back again during operation. This means that hybrid use (operating checkout alternately or in combination with self-service checkout) is flexibly possible and is also in use at V-Markt. Thanks to the operating concept familiar from smartphones, with intuitive icons, colors and control by swipe gestures, customer enthusiasm and thus acceptance of self-service is very high. Feedback confirms this impression from the first day the store is open.

Self-scanning can be integrated as an option. In this case, customers register the goods via smartphone or via a scanning device provided by the retailer and then only pay at the self-checkout terminal.

The V-mini store concept has met with an extremely positive response from customers. Further mini stores are already being planned.
