Company details
In the late 1960’s, a young Al Thieme was working as a plumbing and heating contractor in Bridgeport, Michigan. A family member began to lose mobility due to multiple sclerosis and there were limited personal mobility devices available at that time.
Al knew there had to be a better way.
Working in the evenings in his garage, Al constructed a vehicle that would allow people with walking limitations to maintain their independence. He invented the Amigo, named for being described as the best friend of the first person who used it and a new industry in mobility was born.
Founded with the mission of Improving Lives Through Mobility®, Amigo is a family owned and operated business that Al continues to run with his wife Beth Thieme and a talented team of employees. Every Amigo is manufactured at our Michigan headquarters and shipped worldwide for a variety of markets including healthcare, grocery and retail, material handling and hospitals.
