From February 16 - 20, 2020, dimedis will show the multiple award-winning digital signage software kompas as well as the retreaded wayfinding system kompas wayfinding at its own booth (Hall 1 / C96).

EuroShop visitors will learn on site how kompas Digital Signage supports them to strengthen the communication to the customer. To be seen for the first time at our booth: the integration of RFID at the POS. kompas plays out the content exactly as soon as the customer takes the product from the shelf or lifts it up. The screen can then display further information or start a video to whet the customer's appetite for the product. An ideal tool to stage products at the POS and to support sales. With the help of Peakmedia, we have already successfully supported a specialist sports shop in Austria with this technology.

With kompas Satellite, digital signage screens no longer need to have their own player that plays and displays booked content; instead, this content is streamed via the connected network at the moment of display. This means that various monitors in any format can be controlled within the network. This solution is ideal for POS and provides a low-cost solution for simple applications.
The most important feature is that the player does not store the content locally, but kompas streams content such as images, videos or HTML content live from a so-called hub to the corresponding end devices.

Re-launched wayfinding system at the dimedis booth
As a further highlight, dimedis presents a world premiere: the latest version of the kompas wayfinding on a stele shines for the first time completely in HTML5 and in a revised design. The EuroShop visitor can try out the wayfinding solution for a shopping centre. kompas wayfinding is an intuitive and intelligent wayfinding system. The interaction with the wayfinding system takes place via a touch screen. The software anonymously documents all actions and searches of the users and is thus a permanent survey tool.

With kompas Door Signage, simple e-paper labels become digital signage door signs for a clear display of appointments and room assignments. Using an advanced HTML5 template architecture, there are no technological limits to how information can be graphically presented on the e-Paper Labels. In addition, the data is always up-to-date thanks to the corresponding interfaces. The e-Paper Labels used are battery-powered and feature a high-contrast display, with power only being consumed when the content displayed changes. As a result, the batteries last up to five years. Since the e-Paper Labels are updated via WLAN, no wiring is required. This makes them ideal as flexible digital door signs. So also ideal to retrofit existing buildings. kompas Door Signage offers a connection to all common calendar tools (e.g. Exchange and CalDAV). The mixed operation of conventional kompas players and e-paper labels is possible without any problems.
at the EuroShop, dimedis and its partner simple will also present specially designed housings with scratch-resistant acrylic glass, which can be screen-printed as desired. The housings can be mounted in different ways - screwed to walls, attached to glass with suction cups or fixed to ferrous surfaces with magnets.

 Messe Dortmund is further expanding its existing digital-signage network by installing 18 innovative multi-function columns, so-called “InfoS” throughout the exhibition grounds. These information columns with a height up to 3.5 meters combine analog (constantly visible) with digital (temporary and alternating between visible and invisible) information for a targeted trade fair visit. The 18 information columns are controlled by the digital-signage software solution kompas from dimedis. The absolute highlight: screens are located on two opposite faces of the information columns, which, besides easily understandable visual route guidance, also display digital content. This includes up-to-the-minute information about the ongoing trade fair program, advertising from participating exhibitors, image campaigns with photos and videos as well as warnings and evacuation instructions that can be displayed at short notice in the event of unforeseen occurrences.

With the exception of the power supply cables, the columns are completely wireless and operate via the trade fair’s in-house WLAN network. Every content update is sent to the columns via WLAN and saved locally in each column’s own fail-safe industrial mini PC, a slot-in computer integrated into the display to ensure that the most recently transferred content is still stored locally in the event of a network failure.

65-inch screens from Philips in portrait format are used. The information columns have a lockable roller system and can be pushed to a new location by a single person if required. The upper section of the information column with an LED backlight functions as an eye-catcher and directs the trade fair visitors to the respective halls and the nearest service points.

The columns designed by the Austrian company Typico based in Lochau are square-shaped with a side length of 1 meter. The multi-function columns are located at all intersections on the exhibition grounds and thus act as an easily recognizable source of information as well as an orientation aid. The columns were used for the first time during Germany’s largest sustainability fair, FAIR FRIENDS, in September 2019.

Thomas Malms, dimedis’s head of product development and integration for kompas, talks about the new digital-signage project at Messe Dortmund: I am convinced that the information column concept will be exceedingly well received by the visitors, on the market and by advertisers. This is the starting signal for a new approach towards sensible combinations of digital and analog media.”
Messe Dortmund uses kompas in the North Entrance, in the congress center, in the Mercure Hotel Dortmund Messe und Kongress and in the exhibition halls for the digital menu boards in the restaurant areas. Messe Dortmund has been relying on kompas since 2008 to control the total of 120 digital-signage installations on the entire exhibition grounds.

Messe Düsseldorf continues to upgrade its existing digital signage network and installs 35 digital door and room signs at its headquarters. These replace and supplement analogue notices at offices, meeting rooms, association and journalist offices. The digital signage software solution kompas from dimedis controls and networks the door signage screens. 20 e-paper screens in the size of 7.5 inches as well as 15 LCD screens with a size of 10 inches from IAdea are used. kompas integrates all common calendar tools to dynamically display the occupancy of the rooms on the screens. In addition, the screens do not require a separate power supply: the 10-inch devices with color display are powered by a Power-over-Ethernet cable and the e-paper devices have a battery that lasts about five years. The screens display appointments dynamically, highlighting current events and hiding past ones.

Messe Dortmund is further upgrading the existing digital signage network and installing 18 innovative multifunctional steles, called "InfoS", throughout the exhibition grounds. These up to 3.5 metre high information columns combine analogue (permanently visible) as well as digital (temporary as well as changeably visible) information around a targeted trade fair visit. The digital signage software solution kompas from dimedis controls the 18 info pillars. A special feature: The information pillars have integrated screens on two opposite sides, which display digital content in addition to a visually easy to grasp route guidance. This includes up-to-the-minute information on the current trade fair programme, advertising from participating exhibitors, image campaigns with pictures and videos, as well as warning and evacuation information that can be displayed at short notice in the event of unforeseen events.

Apart from the power supply, the pillars operate exclusively without cables via the trade fair's in-house WLAN network. Any content updates are distributed to the steles via WLAN and stored locally in the company's own fail-safe industrial mini-PC, a plug-in computer integrated in the display, so that in the event of a network failure the most recently transmitted content continues to be played locally.

65 inch screens in portrait format from Philips are used. The info pillars have a lockable roller system and can be moved by just one person if required. The upper area of the info pillar acts as an eye-catcher with LED backlighting and guides visitors to the respective exhibition halls and the nearest service destinations.

The floor plan of the stele, for whose technical construction the company Typico from Lochau in Austria is responsible, is square with a side length of one meter. The multifunctional stelae can be found at all junctions of the site and thus guarantee an orientation and information-giving recognition value. The info steles were used for the first time at Germany's largest sustainability trade fair FAIR FRIENDS in September 2019.

Messe Dortmund uses kompas in the North Entrance, in the Congress Centre, in the "Mercure Hotel Dortmund Messe & Kongress" and in the exhibition halls for the digital menu boards in the restaurant areas. Since 2008, Messe Dortmund has relied on kompas to control a total of 120 digital signage installations throughout the exhibition grounds.
