Established in 1978 as a start-up by two students, the company focused on the emerging trend towards mobile data capture right from the outset. They soon became the market leader in Germany's retail food sector. In the mid-1990s, the company branched out into mobile recording, inspection and processing of public transport tickets. ALMEX developed the first mobile ticket terminal deployed by DB (Deutsche Bahn / German Rail), setting the standards for the competition. Towards the late 1990s, ticket vending machines and car park terminals were added to the portfolio. In the course of its 35-year corporate history, the ALMEX GmbH has delivered around 300,000 mobile data capture and processing terminals and well over 100,000 ticket vending machines and car park terminals.
