ZBD’s epaper solution selected for Magyar Telekom’s ‘Future Store’ project

ZBD’s electronic shelf labels have been selected as one of the innovative technologies that will be showcased within Magyar Telekom’s T-City ‘Future Store’ project, a new initiative designed to present customers with some of the latest and most exciting technological innovations. ZBD’s displays have been implemented within the new Coop store in Szolnok, Hungary, which forms part of the smart city programme T-City, launched by Magyar Telekom, Hungary’s leading telecommunications service provider, and the city of Szolnok earlier in 2009.

Coop is Hungary’s 3rd largest retailer in Hungary and operates a mixed estate of neighbourhood stores, hypermarkets and supermarkets with more than 5000 stores. The Szolnok Coop store, located approximately 65 miles East of Budapest, opened its doors to the public on 9 June 2010 and has already generated significant press and customer interest.

ZBD’s epop displays have been implemented within the fruit & vegetable, delicatessen and chilled sections of the store where they will provide customers with an improved experience, as they will be able to see not only the price, but also the ingredients, country of origin and promotions on products, helping them to make more informed buying decisions.

Tibor Fekete, Sales Director for Coop Szolnok Zrt., said, “We currently use paper labels in our stores, and this leads to challenges such as the time taken to make price changes, potential errors in the prices displayed, and possible penalties if the wrong prices are used. There are also concerns regarding the cost of the paper, and the labour costs attached to producing and displaying the labels.”

Tibor Fekete continued, “ZBD is the ideal partner for this project, as they demonstrated a high level of innovation and have been able to provide a clear roadmap for the development of the epop product, which is a guarantee for future-proofing our business.”

David Rogers, Sales & Marketing Director, ZBD, said, “The T-City Future Store is the ideal environment to showcase our solution. I’m confident that Coop will quickly realise a strong return on investment, and will be impressed by the positive feedback that they’ll receive from customers.”
