VDC Research Group Confirms Datalogic Scanning as the Fixed Retail and Handheld Scanning Market Leader

November 9, 2010 – Eugene, OR USA – The 2010 VDC Research Report is completed and Datalogic Scanning has very positive news to share with its customers: after months of analytics and AIDC industry research, “Datalogic Scanning has been declared the world’s No. 1 supplier of fixed retail scanners and the third leading supplier of handheld bar code scanners with the No. 1 position in EMEA”, stated Bill Parnell, President and CEO of Datalogic Scanning.
According to the report, Datalogic Scanning has achieved 31.5% of the global fixed retail scanning supplier market share, which consists of bi-optic, single plane and presentation bar code scanners. Trailing behind Datalogic Scanning is NCR with 24% and Motorola with 18% of the supplier market share, which leaves Datalogic Scanning as the undisputed fixed retail scanning market leader worldwide. Datalogic Scanning is proud to have held this leading position since 2004.
“More good news is that we have been able to grow our leadership position equally around the world,” explained Matt Schler, General Manager of Fixed Retail Scanning. “Confirmed by the VDC Report, Datalogic Scanning holds the leading fixed retail scanning position in all three major economies of the world: the Americas, EMEA and APAC. This success has been made possible through constant innovation, market knowledge and most of all, listening and responding to the needs of our strategic partners and faithful customers.”
In the fixed retail scanning business unit alone, Datalogic Scanning has developed industry advancing technologies including the patented All-Weighs™ scale platter technology, which minimizes shrink for grocery retailers, and SurroundScan™ 3D Scanning, a 6-sided scanning technology enabling faster throughput and reduced wait times for customers. With these technologies, Datalogic Scanning has exceeded the needs of customers for decades. In fact, Datalogic Scanning recently celebrated the production of its One Millionth Magellan bi-optic scanner; an achievement which represents over 30 years of satisfied customers worldwide.
The report also confirmed Datalogic Scanning’s leadership position in the handheld scanning market. In EMEA, Datalogic Scanning is the No. 1 supplier of handheld scanners with 30.7% of the supplier market share. According to historical VDC research, Datalogic Scanning has held this leadership position since 2002, which proves the company’s ability to adapt to the needs of customers over time. The VDC Report also confirmed Datalogic Scanning as the No. 1 provider of handheld linear imagers worldwide with 38.3% supplier share as well as the third highest supplier of handheld scanners as a whole worldwide.
“Our movement into imaging solutions as well as developing tailored handheld products for specific vertical markets such as healthcare, retail and manufacturing has created a clear-cut path for our customers to future-proof their investments,” stated Pietro Todescato, General Manager of Handheld Scanning. “By understanding the needs of the diverse markets we serve, Datalogic Scanning has been able to design and manufacture products that exceed the expectations of customers. This made the difference in the competitive market, especially in 2009.”
