Aldi Süd (Aldi South) is buidling a second distribution warehouse in Australia. The discounter is investing some 50 million Australian dollars (€ 28.1 million) in a 43.000 sq.m. distribution centre on a 30 hectare site in the west of the city of Melbourne. It was only the end of January when Aldi opened its first branch in the fifth continent, causing great excitement in the media.
By now the Mülheim firm is operating 18 sites which are supplied from the warehouse in the south of Sydney. Aldi wants to set up a network of 100 branches by 2003.
