Integration provides IGEL Linux customers access to the full range of functions on IBM’s mainframe systems
Reading, UK. August 23rd, 2010: IGEL Technology today announced that it has integrated the IBM 5250 client into its Linux thin client firmware to provide IBM users direct access to IBM Power Systems™ such as the AS/400, iSeries and System i™. Using the new integrated client, customers of both IBM and IGEL will now have access to the full range of functions in their mainframe systems. Available immediately, the IBM 5250 client is part of IGEL’s market-leading, Linux-based thin client software.

In addition, customers can consolidate IBM terminals with Windows®-based and Linux-based PCs. IGEL thin clients can also be seamlessly integrated into virtual desktop infrastructures (VDI) and with their integrated browser, provide an economical and energy-efficient solution for directly accessing cloud-computing services,” said Simon Richards, UK General Manager at IGEL.
Pricing and Availability
The new IBM client software is included in the Standard and Advanced firmware packages for IGEL Universal Desktop thin clients running the Linux operating system (LX). These latest firmware versions are now available for download at www.MyIGEL.com.
