Ahold starting with Albert Heijn XL

Albert Heijn XL is the name of a new, extra large supermarket format
of the Dutch retailer Ahold in Zaandam. A first Albert Heijn XL has
been opened in Arnhem. By 2010 there are to be 50 Albert Heijn XL
markets.

Also new is the convenience format „AH to go“, which is being
set up at Esso petrol stations in The Netherlands.

Albert Heijn XL ist about 4,000 sq.m. in size and is thus three times the size
of a conventional Albert Heijn supermarket.

The new format offers not only improved fittings but above all an
extended range of fresh products and a wider selection of
ready-to-eat meals. The format is rounded off with a children’s
corner, a photo shop, an Internet café and a juice bar.
