At EuroShop 2020, VR Payment presented payfree: the world’s first real prototype of a cashierless checkout based on radio frequency identification technology (RFID). After a successful market entry, payfree is now enabling payment on the go in various store settings and industries. The payment specialist of the Cooperative Financial Network will be presenting the current product and development status with information on specific implementations with well-known brands such as L’Oréal, Bundesliga football team Eintracht Frankfurt and Better Rich at the EuroShop in Düsseldorf from February 26, 2023: hall 6, booth I28.
The focus of payfree is the quick and convenient shopping experience. The “Bag Fast Track”, a small scanning unit, enables multi-product scanning in the retail sector. Customers simply pass their shopping bag in one continuous movement through a small U-shaped scanner at the shop exit. All items are automatically identified through their RFID tags within a few seconds and then paid contactless by card or app. This makes payfree a valid alternative to grab-and-go concepts with elaborate sensors and camera technology. It is not only faster and more cost-effective to implement, but also enables retailers to take advantage of the numerous benefits of RFID technology. Merchandise logistics, inventory management and product security systems can be seamlessly linked to the checkout solution. Demand in the retail sector is correspondingly high.
payfree is already in use in the areas of sports merchandise, beauty and cosmetics, fashion, and furniture retail. Depending on the use case, the checkout solution can fulfil various purposes:
- Increasing efficiency and customer frequency: A complete shopping bag is automatically registered in less than three seconds. Customers benefit from shorter waiting times. Employees are no longer tied to the checkout and have more time for providing personal assistance.
- Premium customer experience: The innovative checkout enhances the in-store shopping experience. The payment and checkout process moves into the background, so that individual assistance and customer support become the main focus.
The payfree Bag Fast Track is quickly and easily integrated into various store concepts. Taking up barely two square metres, it can be flexibly located. It only requires a power and network connection to operate. Mobile, autonomous implementations with payfree’s own checkout module are possible, as are complete software integrations into existing POS and resource planning systems. Vendors are thus given maximum freedom of design.
