Bartels-Langness rolls out its first Smart Carts

Author: Maurizio Giuri, Lebensmittelzeitung

Bartels-Langness is testing a new smart cart system. With the help of an attachable tablet, normal shopping carts become digital trolleys that can scan and checkout.

The northern German retailer Bartels-Langness is expanding its range of self-scanning solutions. Customers can now store with smart shopping carts at Famila in Altenholz. These are conventional trolleys that are equipped with an attachable tablet scanner unit.

"With the smart shopping carts, customers can scan their items directly in the trolley, pay and then simply roll on," writes Bartels-Langness in a post on Linkedin. The system, called Snapcart, comes from the two technology service providers Hanshow and Shopreme. Bartels-Langness' tech division, Bela IT, was also involved in the development of the software.

meanwhile, shopreme reports the use of its Scan-Go solution for smartphones at the Canadian chain store Loblaw. There, the system is integrated into the "PC Optimum" customer app and is called "PCO go". In a pilot test, loyalty customers in three stores in Toronto can scan goods themselves with their smartphone and pay at self-service checkouts.
