Ismaning, June 17, 2025 - Axis Communications , a technology leader in network video, is launching six new network cameras based on its proprietary ARTPEC-9 system-on-chip. The new models in the AXIS Q35 Dome Camera Series feature an acoustic sensor for the first time, providing audio analysis while preserving privacy. The new AXIS Q6355-LE and AXIS Q6358-LE PTZ Cameras offer detailed image quality even in complete darkness thanks to a 31x optical zoom and a light-sensitive 1/2" sensor.
The ARTPEC-9 system-on-chip is the latest generation of Axis Communications' proprietary ARTPEC technology, specifically designed to meet the needs of the security industry. Compared to its predecessors, ARTPEC-9 offers faster image processing, lower bit rates, enhanced cybersecurity, and improved capabilities for AI-based video analytics. Furthermore, ARTPEC-9 is the first to support the Alliance for Open Media (AOMedia) AV1 video codec, a royalty-free and open-source standard for video encoding and decoding that enables seamless processing of video data, both locally and in the cloud, without any loss of image quality due to data compression.
The AXIS Q35 Dome Camera Series: Video and audio analytics directly integrated
The AXIS Q35 Dome Camera Series is a proven product line from Axis, particularly suitable for protecting high-security areas in airports and critical infrastructure. With the new models – AXIS Q3546, AXIS Q3548, AXIS Q3556, and AXIS Q3558 – Axis equips the product line with the new ARTPEC-9 System-on-Chip technology to enable analytics applications "at the edge," i.e., in real time on the camera itself, via an integrated Deep Learning Processing Unit (DLPU).
For this purpose, the cameras come pre-installed with AXIS Object Analytics , an AI-powered analytics solution that reliably detects, classifies, counts, and tracks people, vehicles, and vehicle types. AXIS Image Health Analytics is also pre-installed and ensures that users are notified when the image frame is blocked, blurred, tampered with, or underexposed.
AXIS Q3556 and AXIS Q3558 also feature an acoustic sensor for the first time, capturing and measuring sound waves, enabling real-time edge-based audio analytics without the need to stream or store audio files. The analysis, which runs through the pre-installed, AI-powered AXIS Audio Analytics solution, instead provides audio metadata such as frequency information, volume levels in decibels, or other types of non-personal data. Based on this data, alerts and other responses to security-relevant audio events—such as loud shouting, screaming, or breaking glass—can be automatically triggered, while protecting the data and privacy of all involved individuals.
All new models also offer excellent image quality in 4 MP (AXIS Q3546 and AXIS Q3556) or 8 MP (AXIS Q3548 and AXIS Q3558), even in challenging weather or lighting conditions. An IR-shielded dome prevents infrared reflections. Axis Edge Vault , a hardware-based cybersecurity platform certified to the US cybersecurity standard FIPS 140-3 Level 3, protects the cameras against cyber threats and unauthorized access. Furthermore, the devices are IK10, IP66, IP6K9K, and NEMA 4X certified, making them ideal for outdoor use in temperatures from -55°C to 55°C.
The AXIS Q6355-LE and AXIS Q6358-LE PTZ Cameras: Excellent image quality and lightning-fast zoom
The new AXIS Q6355-LE PTZ Camera and AXIS Q6358-LE PTZ Camera also feature ARTPEC-9 System-on-Chip technology, enabling advanced, AI-powered analytics applications to run in real time on the camera itself via an integrated DLPU. Both models come pre-installed with AXIS Object Analytics and AXIS Image Health Analytics . Axis Zipstream technology, with support for AV1, H.264, and H.265 encoding standards, reduces bandwidth and storage requirements for applications such as streaming, analytics, and data transfer.
Both cameras offer high image quality in all lighting conditions, with a resolution of 1080p (AXIS Q6355-LE) and 4K UHD (AXIS Q6358-LE). They also feature a light-sensitive 1/2" sensor and are equipped with Lightfinder 2.0 , Forensic WDR , and OptimizedIR technologies, ensuring high detail and even illumination of the image, even in complete darkness. A 31x optical zoom with quick zoom function makes it easy to track and identify even fast-moving objects. Both models are equipped with Axis Edge Vault and are IP66, IK10, NEMA 4X, and NEMA TS2 certified, making them suitable for outdoor use and temperatures up to 74°C (165°F).
"Our new ARTPEC-9 system-on-chip technology represents a milestone in performance, efficiency, and functionality for network video. To leverage these advantages, we are expanding our product portfolio with a total of six new ARTPEC-9-based network cameras," says Benjamin Körner, Architect & Engineering Manager at Axis Communications. "Thanks to our ARTPEC-9 system-on-chip, all new models feature impressive capabilities for AI-based real-time image analysis. One key improvement, for example, is the extended detection range. This allows even smaller, more distant objects to be detected. Combined with the outstanding image quality, this allows scenes to be analyzed down to the smallest detail, allowing for timely intervention if necessary."
