Ismaning, April 8, 2025 - Axis Communications , a technology leader in network video, is launching the AXIS P1518-LE Box Camera, an innovative new series of dual-sensor box cameras ideal for building and perimeter security applications, as they can cover expansive exterior areas as well as provide detailed images of entrances. They also deliver excellent image quality in all lighting conditions.
The AXIS P1518-LE Box Camera is the first camera in the Axis portfolio to offer both wide-angle and close-up shots of the same scene in a single unit. It features two image sensors with outstanding image quality and detail: A 1/1.2-inch sensor delivers wide-angle images in 4K resolution with 8 MP at 30 frames per second, even in low-light conditions, and a 1/2.8-inch sensor delivers Full HD resolution with 2 MP at 60 frames per second for close-up shots without motion blur.
For reliably high image quality, even in complete darkness, the camera features the proven Lightfinder 2.0 technology, Forensic WDR , and an integrated infrared function via OptimizedIR . The latter offers a powerful combination of camera intelligence and advanced LED technology developed by Axis, ensuring that the entire image area is evenly illuminated, even in total darkness. A telephoto lens with remote zoom and focus functions, as well as pan and tilt adjustments, also allows for flexible adjustment of the image area to any situation.
AXIS P1518-LE Box Camera also offers pre-installed, powerful AI-based analytics that run in real time and " on the edge" - directly on the camera. This is enabled by an integrated Deep Learning Processing Unit (DLPU) and the proven AI-powered AXIS Object Analytics pre-installed on the device. It reliably detects, classifies, counts, and tracks people, vehicles, and vehicle types. It also captures and collects metadata, enabling fast and efficient forensic searches for details in recorded and live video.
Additionally, the device is protected by Axis Edge Vault , a hardware-based cybersecurity platform certified to the US cybersecurity standard FIPS 140-3 Level 3. Furthermore, the camera is IK10, IP66/67, and NEMA 4X certified, making it resistant to hurricane-force winds of up to 60 m/s—ideal for use in harsh environments.
"In video-based security, there are various scenarios where both wide-angle and close-up views of the same scene are required to ensure comprehensive security coverage. With our new AXIS P1518-LE Box Camera, we enable this coverage with a single, robust device," says Benjamin Körner, Architect & Engineering Manager at Axis Communications. "Combined with excellent image quality and the powerful AI-based analytics capabilities users already expect from our solutions, our new camera is suitable for a wide range of use cases, including building and perimeter protection, traffic flow monitoring, and smart city initiatives. Thanks to easy installation and maintenance - and the fact that only a single device is required - the camera also reduces the total cost of ownership of the security system."
