Axis Communications GmbH

Axis Communications expands product portfolio: The first product in the new environmental sensor category is the AXIS D6210 Air Quality Sensor.

Ismaning, 27.05.2025 - Axis Communications , a technology leader in network video, is launching a completely new product category: environmental sensors for measuring various health and safety-related parameters. The first is the AXIS D6210 Air Quality Sensor, a cost-effective air quality sensor for measuring indoor air quality.

The AXIS D6210 Air Quality Sensor can monitor various indoor air quality parameters: It detects aerosol vapor generated by e-cigarettes (vaping), cigarette smoke, and various air pollutants, including pollen, particulate matter (PM), carbon dioxide (CO2 ) , nitrogen oxides (NOx), and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). It can also measure relative humidity and temperature in a range of -10 to 45 degrees Celsius and, in combination with other Axis devices, trigger automatic responses in real time when certain predefined thresholds are exceeded.

Flexibility in installation and use

This is made possible by Axis's  Portcast technology . It allows the sensor to be seamlessly integrated into selected existing Axis network solutions—including approximately half of the currently available Axis network cameras—using a plug-and-play approach, without requiring additional IP addresses, switch ports, or power connections. For example, it is possible to display air quality parameters in the image area of a connected network camera or to issue a warning message via a loudspeaker to indicate poor air quality.

For greater placement flexibility, the sensor can be placed up to 100 meters away from the network device or power source. Because the sensor and connected device share the same IP address, they can be easily configured and managed simultaneously. This allows the functionality of existing Axis devices to be cost-effectively expanded, creating a flexible, end-to-end indoor air quality measurement solution.

A tool for long-term improvements

In addition to improving indoor air quality, companies can use the data collected by the AXIS D6210 Air Quality Sensor to document their compliance with regulatory requirements. They can also adjust their ventilation and heating strategies to save energy costs and reduce their environmental footprint. Combined with other data sets, this can drive the planning and implementation of smart building initiatives more effectively in the long term.

"Poor indoor air quality is a major, yet often overlooked, health and safety risk," says Benjamin Körner, Architect & Engineering Manager at Axis Communications. "Building designers already have numerous air quality standards in place, and these will become even more of a focus in the future, especially with regard to 'green building certifications'. With our new product category of environmental sensors, led by the AXIS D6210 Air Quality Sensor, our first air quality sensor, we want to help our customers meet these requirements and support people's health in the workplace. In addition, the sensor can also be used to improve the condition of equipment and IT systems, such as servers in data centers."
