The Amstetten-based shopfitters Umdasch Shopfitting have been awarded two more major contracts in the Middle East. At New Year 2012 they won an order worth € 7 million for the fitting out of the 10,000 m² shopping-landscape in Terminal 3 in Dubai; now they are pleased to have landed a similar-sized project in Doha, the capital of the Gulf state of Qatar. And in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) Umdasch will also be responsible for redesigning the ground floor of the famous Fitaihi luxury department store.
Saudi Arabia and Qatarare the two states in the Middle Eastin which the largest sums are currently being invested. There is quite a construction boom in Qatar, which will be the site of the FIFA World Cup in 2022.
A superlative new airport will commence operations in Dohaon 12. 12. 2012. 40,000 staff, 24 million passengers, the longest runway in the world, the world’s largest maintenance hangar, premium quality for up to 17 million transit passengers, luxury hotels and SPA facilities – these are just some of the highlights of this gigantic project. The building costs amount to some US$ 50 billion. This will make Dohathe dominant hub in the Middle East apart from Dubai.
Once again, the extensive expertise of Umdasch in the international travel retail business was the deciding factor determining the award of the contract. Umdasch will be working in close partnership with its fitout partner QIAJV Doha. A travel retail area of approximately 12,000 m² is to be created at Doha Airport. The 40-odd departments were planned by the Smart Design Group (Vancouver,Canada) and must be fitted out in the record time of 24 weeks while complying with the strictest of building regulations. The imposing design convinces with an exclusive material mix, a harmonious space concept, first-class presentation and the skilful inclusion of the latest media technology for branding and product information. In addition to the classic duty free selection, the who’s who of global designer and luxury brands will also be represented.
Consumer-oriented entrance for pure luxury
28 years ago, Umdasch supplied the shopfitting for the Fitaihi luxury department store in Jeddah, which extends across a sales area of 3,600 m² on six floors. It almost seemed as if the timeless elegance of the gleaming furnishings in gold, marble, glass had been built to last for ever. Now, however, Umdasch will be supplying the shopfitting for the first stage of the redesign, commencing with the ground floor of the establishment which still enjoys a legendary reputation in the Arabian region. The opening is planned for mid-October 2012.
This time the ground floor will be designed in a considerably more consumer-oriented style and will serve as an entrance to the treasure chambers and salons on the upper floors. The aim is to ensure that there is no reluctance to enter on the part of the increasingly mixed clientèle. The product range in this antechamber will include fashion articles, jewellery and accessories in the medium price range.
The Umdasch Shopfitting contract includes the full planning, delivery and installation of the furnishings, general contractor services such as the refurbishment of the floor and ceiling and the adaptation of the lighting.
