Hoeft & Wessel brings Android to mobile terminals
Hoeft & Wessel is expanding its range of mobile terminals with the Android operating system. The new units will go on exhibit for the first time at the EuroCIS. The IT company recently introduced the first mobile terminal loaded with the Android OS for commercial applications. The new terminal is part of the skeye.dart model range, a particularly robust handheld in PDA format. Now the top-selling model for the German retail trade, the skeye.allegro series, is also available preloaded with Android 2.3 (Gingerbread). The distinguishing feature of this terminal, which also allows single-handed operation, is its landscape display: it gives the operator the same look & feel as when working on a PC. Soon to arrive is the skeye.e-motion series, again a particularly robust handheld with a large touch display in tablet format, running the Android 2.3 OS.
Accordingly, Hoeft & Wessel will now be offering its top line ranges of mobile terminals also with the leading smartphone operating system. Customers in the wholesale, retail and logistics sectors will be able to benefit from Android´s strengths, such the diverse range of programming options, the many applications that are available, and the intuitive user interface.
Thanks to the company´s constant development efforts, all mobile terminals from Hoeft & Wessel are equipped with powerful ARM microprocessors and large storage capacities. Secure WLAN modules and radio communications technologies ranging from UMTS right through to HSDPA 3G ensure fast data transmission. The scope of application of the various Skeye brand model series ranges from support applications as diverse as data capture in branches, forklift operations in the field of logistics and deployment in field services. Customers have a choice of display sizes from 2.8" to 8.4" and options such as imaging devices, laser scanners and RFID readers. Development frameworks for use in software development and a device management system facilitating automatic configuration and installation of mobile terminals complete the company's range of offerings.
The early introduction of the Android operating system is in keeping with Hoeft & Wessel´s corporate philosophy, which is to offer customers a choice of operating systems which can be customised to suit their particular requirements.
"The response to our Android initiative has been very encouraging. Trading companies, logistics operators as well as our value-added partners are showing great interest. We expect Android running on mobile terminals to make a successful entry into commerce and logistics," says Hoeft & Wessel Management Board member Thomas Wolf confidently.
