(Bridgeport, Mich.) - Amigo Mobility President Tim Drumhiller of St. Charles, Mich. will be running the Berlin Marathon this September in support of The Rooprai Spinal Trust.

The Rooprai Spinal Trust was founded in 2006 by Marrianne Rooprai and her fiancé Andy Uttridge of Hertfordshire, U.K. RS Trust was started after a 2004 car accident left Rooprai paralyzed from the shoulders down.

RS Trust relies solely on volunteers who share the common goal of supporting and inspiring others affected by spinal injuries while raising money to benefit spinal research. While RS Trust has utilized numerous methods for fundraising, they had great success when Uttridge formed a team to run in the 2012 London Marathon to benefit the organization.

This caught the eye of Drumhiller, who joined the eight person RS Trust team and ran in the 2013 London Marathon in support of the cause. The team raised £20,000 (nearly $32,000 USD), £1,910 of which was raised by Drumhiller. These contributions continue to aid spinal research efforts that help Rooprai and others with spinal cord injuries.

Following the tremendous effort in London, Tim has decided to cross the pond once again, this time heading to Germany to run in the 40th annual BMW Berlin Marathon. He recently met his fundraising goal of £1,000 (roughly $1,600 USD), and hopes to raise even more in the weeks leading up to the race.

The Berlin Marathon will be Tim’s 20th full marathon and he is not only excited to be running in Germany for the first time, but that he will once again be helping a great cause. “Running for the Rooprai team has reenergized my passion for running. I am now running for a much greater cause,” Drumhiller said. “I take great pride in knowing that Marrianne will personally benefit, and through her hard work and dedication, she will inspire many others to do the same.”

Rooprai has made tremendous progress throughout her rehabilitation, and hopes her story and positive outlook can benefit others in similar situations. She has the highest form of spinal injury to ever walk using an Ekso Skeleton, a robotic walking device. This progress has become a focal point when reaching out to others with spinal cord injuries.

“I'm in a great place at the moment,” Rooprai said, “my rehab is very much an ongoing process, but seeing any kind of improvement gives me strength to carry on – my progress is only possible thanks to RST and all the great people like Tim who support us.”
