Cooledge named a Deloitte Technology Fast 50TM company: Recognizing business growth and new paradigm in illumination

Vancouver, November 16, 2016 - Cooledge Lighting Inc. wins Deloitte Technology Fast 50TM award recognizing the company as the second fastest growing technology organization in Canada. This award acknowledges entities that have demonstrated bold innovation, dedicated leadership and strong growth in their respective industries. Cooledge’s 2nd place finish was achieved with revenue growth of 16,966 % from 2012 to 2015.

The Deloitte Technology Fast 50TM program celebrates leaders in the Canadian technology industry and tracks the successful growth of Canadian-grown enterprises. The program augments the broader Deloitte North American Technology Fast 500™ initiative with winners automatically eligible for this elite ranking.

“The company is honored to be recognized as a Deloitte Technology Fast 50TM company” said Cooledge CFO, Edwin Fok. “This is a significant achievement in Cooledge’s short history and given the highly competitive landscape of technology innovators across the country, we are proud to be recognized in such prestigious company.” Cooledge credits the burgeoning demand for the company’s groundbreaking surface illumination technology and an outstanding team in propelling the growth trajectory of the organization.  Mr. Fok adds “While the adoption of LEDs has improved the control, quality, and efficacy of lighting, the delivery remains whetted to the light source and limited to traditional form factors. In contrast, Cooledge offers a holistic approach that integrates light directly into architectural surfaces opening up opportunities to create more dynamic and immersive experiences of space."

Fast 50TM companies are the cutting-edge innovators leading the technology industry in Canada,” said Anders McKenzie, Technology, Media and Telecommunications Managing Partner for Deloitte in Canada. “Their bold vision, unrivaled growth and true commitment to innovation allow them to not only improve today’s world, but also shape tomorrow’s.”

To qualify for the Deloitte Technology Fast 50TM ranking, companies must have been in business for at least four years, have revenues of at least 5 million, be headquartered in Canada, own proprietary technology, conduct research and development activities in Canada and invest a minimum of five percent of gross revenues in R&D.

About the Deloitte Technology Fast 50TM – The Deloitte Technology Fast 50TM program is Canada’s pre-eminent technology awards program. Celebrating business growth, innovation and entrepreneurship, the program features three distinct categories including the Technology Fast 50TM Ranking, Companies-to-Watch Awards (early-stage Canadian tech companies in business less than four years, with the potential to be a future Deloitte Fast 50TM candidate) and in the Leadership Awards (companies that demonstrate technological leadership and innovation within the industry.)  Program sponsors include Deloitte, Aequitas NEO Exchange, Bank of Montreal, Bennet Jones, OMERS Ventures and Vistara Capital Partners.  For further information, visit

About us

Company details

Cooledge Lighting has initiated a paradigm shift that will transform lighting as we know it—from legacy bulbs and fixtures—to one that functions as a building material. Cooledge has created a range of lighting products that can be measured, cut, sized and integrated into the fabric of any environment in much the same way conventional building materials function today.

The company’s founders recognized that in addition to making lighting more efficient, there was an opportunity to advance architectural lighting by using new technologies in ways that could capitalize on widely ignored characteristics of LEDs: their small size and their high efficiency when under-driven, which results in easily managed operating temperatures. While others adapted LEDs for retrofit into traditional formats, Cooledge challenged convention by discovering new ways to integrate light into space.

Cooledge understands that by changing the physical dimensions of light, creatives will be able to transform the environments they design in new and unexpected ways. New flexibility in where and how you position light allows spaces to be transformed from a design perspective and from a construction perspective. Material light is a sustainable choice that is energy efficient and requires far less raw material to produce. The overall installation process is simpler and projects are more cost effectively built.

The company’s first product was introduced in 2013 and received the Design Excellence Award from LIGHTFAIR International for its innovative approach and for advancing the state of the art in lighting. In the following years, Cooledge continued to evolve its product portfolio. Today, TILE and LINE illuminate walls, ceilings, displays and perimeters in environments around the world.

Cooledge is backed by both venture capital and grants from the Canadian Government through the SDTC program.
