Optimized for Performance: METTLER TOLEDO Extends Portfolio with Auto Wrapper 880

Gießen, 5 March 2017 – At EuroShop 2017 (Hall 6, Booth E61), METTLER TOLEDO is presenting the flagship of its new range of backroom solutions: the Auto Wrapper 880. The wrapper has one of the smallest footprints of its performance class and comes with a proactive and comprehensive maintenance schedule that is consistently aligned on reducing the total cost of ownership.

With the Auto Wrapper 880, METTLER TOLEDO is responding to the needs of retailers who are looking for a high-quality, economical and robust system for automatic weighing, wrapping and labeling in backroom environments. “Our presentation of the Auto Wrapper 880 at EuroShop 2017 also marks the kick-off of our roadshow, throughout which we will showcase our backroom expertise to grocery retailers on-site,” comments Lutz Nungesser, METTLER TOLEDO Business Area Manager Retail, Region Central Europe.

Excellent Quality Wrapping
Whether for fresh meat products in self-service displays, fresh fish or pre-packed fresh fruit and vegetables, the Auto Wrapper 880 guarantees that food products are wrapped, sealed and labeled with maximum precision for a perfect sales image. In many backrooms, staff turnover is high and employees often have limited experience in operating automatic wrappers, which can result in varying wrapping quality and associated product spillages, leakages or untidily positioned labels. The Auto Wrapper 880 allows for every operator to control production runs fast and easy. At the same time, a continuously high standard of wrapping is achieved thanks to automatic tray centering, correct and uniform wrapping and precise label positioning. Lutz Nungesser: “The 880 brings all the quality benefits of industrial wrapping and labeling into the backroom.”

Proactive Service
The METTLER TOLEDO Auto Wrapper 880 comes with a maintenance schedule that drives forward industrial standards for the backroom. “We want to optimize the operational uptime for grocery retailers. Typically, retailers experience two peak periods of wrapping – one in the morning and another in the afternoon –, for example, when restocking the self-service displays with pre-packed fresh meat products. That’s why our service model for the Auto Wrapper 880 includes fixed appointments for proactive maintenance based around planned downtimes of the machine.”

Ample Speed Reserves
With a footprint of just two square meters, the Auto Wrapper 880 takes up very little space and is one
of the most compact machines in its performance class. Thanks to a wrapping speed of up to 35 trays per minute, the machine offers ample reserves to ensure the interruption-free replenishment of shelves and product displays, even when the store is very busy. Label and film rolls are changed quickly and easily, which is especially important at peak times.

Easy Operation and Cleaning
The Auto Wrapper 880 combines the advantages of a keyboard and a touchscreen in a single, integrated operating concept. “Experienced users often know numerous PLUs by heart and can enter these at high speed using the keyboard, without even glancing at the touchscreen,” says Lutz Nungesser. “Less experienced employees or temporary staff can use the touchscreen to call up the products. In effect, they learn the PLUs as they go along, so their speed and confidence soon improve.” Furthermore, the touchscreen gives employees direct access to the most frequently used functions such as on-screen help for cleaning, maintaining and operating the equipment. Lutz Nungesser: “The backroom is no place for time-consuming and costly on-the-job training. In case of the Auto Wrapper 880, the on-screen help functionality of the touchscreen fulfills the role of a trainer, such as to explain how to change a roll of film or labels and for the obligatory daily cleaning.”

During its roadshow, METTLER TOLEDO is holding live demonstrations of the Auto Wrapper 880, which is available now.

Efficient Scale Management: METTLER TOLEDO Launches the Modular Software Suite MTRS

Gießen, 5 March 2017 – Lower operating costs, simplified scale inventory and guaranteed uptime: At EuroShop 2017 (Hall 6, Booth E61), METTLER TOLEDO presents METTLER TOLEDO RetailSuite (MTRS), its new high-performance modular software suite for centralized scale management. With MTRS, grocery retailers benefit from easy and convenient  configuration, software and data management .

MTRS offers retailers a single, holistic platform for the central management of all METTLER TOLEDO scales and wrappers across all stores throughout the entire equipment life cycle. Lutz Nungesser, METTLER TOLEDO Business Area Manager Retail, Region Central Europe, comments: “MTRS assures grocery retailers of a highly integrated connection between their scale infrastructure and ERP system. The software suite provides a whole host of tools and functionalities that substantially ease the burden on the IT department and the IT helpdesk and simplify service processes. Software updates, reassignments of touch keys, new labeling regulations – thanks to MTRS, all this can be done for all stores in the retailer’s network at head office with just a few clicks.”

MTRS Data Hub: DistributionServer
MTRS DistributionServer is the software suite’s core module. MTRS DistributionServer enables grocery retailers to rapidly install and integrate new scales in any of their stores, and also to quickly manage application updates and reconfigurations in their device network. This module controls and monitors the distribution of software, patches and data to all METTLER TOLEDO scales and wrappers across the network, while an integrated scheduler enables all activities to be planned precisely. For example, updates can be distributed and performed at a preset time to minimize the impact on the day-to-day operations. In the case of a store opening, DistributionServer ensures that the first-time installation process of new equipment runs particularly smoothly. As soon as new scales or wrappers are connected to the network, all it takes is a few clicks at head office to transmit the relevant profiles and data to them.

DistributionServer is a valuable tool for providing maintenance and helpdesk support. IT employees at the head office can access the store-level equipment remotely in order to offer on-site support quickly and conveniently. If a sales employee has inadvertently changed a scale setting, for example, a member of the support team can offer remote assistance and restore the scale to its original state with just a few clicks. DistributionServer is accessed via MTRS’s DistributionManager client software. Thanks to its clearly structured user interface, the client software facilitates users to call up information about the status and current configuration of individual devices and to make changes, if necessary.

Adapt Touchscreen Layouts in WorkBench
WorkBench is yet another smart tool in MTRS which enables retailers to manage the touchscreen layout on the scales in their stores quickly, conveniently and economically and to make adjustments independently. WorkBench allows different PLUs to be assigned to the scales’ touch keys either centrally (and integrated into MTRS scale management) or autonomously at the local level, as required. “Generally speaking, the amount and type of fresh food offerings varies, depending on the size and location of each store. With MTRS and WorkBench, retailers can simply select standard presets and then fine-tune the settings for the individual store as necessary,” explains Lutz Nungesser. “This makes WorkBench the tool of choice for adapting the touchscreen layout in line with store-specific sales situations – such as to focus on local or regional specialties and best-sellers or to assign the weekly special offers to the scale’s hot keys. In other words, if there are any changes in demand or the product range, these can immediately be reflected in the user interface of each device thanks to WorkBench, ensuring a consistently high quality of service as well as fast weighing and operating processes.”

Sales-boosting POS Marketing with DisplayManager
On-scale displays and video screens are among the most effective means of in-store communication. With DisplayManager, MTRS enables marketing departments to easily add perfectly timed purchase triggers at fresh food counters. DisplayManager supports POS in-store marketing, both on METTLER TOLEDO touchscreen scales and on other digital display devices around the store. Lutz Nungesser explains, “DisplayManager is specifically designed for marketing specialists. The tool makes it easy for them to create playlists, which they can then simply ‘drag and drop’ to allocate them to specific stores and channels.” No special IT knowledge is required to manage visual content on the scales using DisplayManager; it supports a wide variety of image and video streaming formats, including videos, slideshows, RSS feeds and streaming services.

Weighing Convenience at the Fresh Counter: METTLER TOLEDO Adds New Options to FreshWay Vario

Gießen, 5 March 2017 – At EuroShop 2017 (Hall 6, Booth E61) METTLER TOLEDO is revealing the new options for its modular touchscreen counter scale FreshWay Vario (FreshWay V) for the very first time. Visitors can see the FreshWay V Flat Edition including an extra-flat weighing plate as well as the new linerless printer for hygienic wrapping and labeling.

By adding these new options, METTLER TOLEDO has further extended its concept of a modular touchscreen counter scale that combines ergonomics with process optimization. Thanks to its extra-flat CWP weighing plate, the Flat Edition model of FreshWay V gives counter employees even more freedom of movement and easier access to the fresh product displays. The separate computing unit can be invisibly integrated into the counter. Just like the standard version, the Flat Edition of FreshWay V requires no irreversible structural changes to the counter design.

Technological Upgrade for the FreshWay Line
Besides releasing new options for FreshWay V, METTLER TOLEDO has also further improved the hardware of the entire FreshWay line. Both FreshWay Vario and FreshWay Tower now come equipped with robust capacitive touchscreens that offer impressive touch sensitivity and durability. Thanks to the frameless design of the displays, they are extremely hygienic and easy to clean. The new high-performance processors and extended RAM storage open up new opportunities for retailers to deploy sales-boosting digital signage campaigns at the point of sale (POS). The new hardware is also powerful enough to handle data-intensive promotional and branding campaigns with ease. FreshWay Vario is compatible with the arms and mounting systems from Ergonomic Solutions.

Background: FreshWay V
FreshWay V was presented for the first time at EuroCIS 2016. The modular touchscreen scale gives food retailers more freedom to tailor the design of their fresh counters in order to optimize customer service. With FreshWay V, the touchscreen operator display, customer display, printer unit, and weighing plate are all individual elements that can be placed anywhere. This makes it extremely easy for grocery retailers to align the weighing and POS activities with the space and circumstances at each specific counter and to optimize employee access to the fresh product display.

Gießen, January 31, 2017 – Expertise in the backroom, barrier-free self-service weighing, Retail 4.0 with MTRS: METTLER TOLEDO
Retail is headed to Düsseldorf for EuroShop 2017 (March 5-9) with its extended product portfolio
and many innovations in tow.

Spread over six focus areas, METTLER TOLEDO Retail will present its Perfectly Placed Weighing Solutions for Leading Grocery Retailers – the motto of this year’s EuroShop appearance – in Hall 6, Booth E61.

In the backroom focus area, METTLER TOLEDO will introduce the new Auto Wrapper 880 for weighing, wrapping and labeling. “EuroShop 2017 is the kick-off to a roadshow where we will be presenting our backroom expertise on-site to the retail community in the coming weeks and months,” says Lutz Nungesser, METTLER TOLEDO Business Area Manager Retail Central Europe. “The Auto Wrapper 880 is the flagship of our portfolio expansion for the backroom. It’s one of the most compact machines in its class, designed to minimize total cost of ownership.”

Barrier-free self-service weighing is one of the main topics of the fruit and vegetables focus area. About 1.5 million people in Germany are wheelchair users.
Lutz Nungesser: “At EuroShop 2017, we’ll show just how much easier it could be for wheelchair users to shop in the fresh produce department with a variant of our FreshWay V touchscreen scales as a barrier-free self-service scale.” The scale offers functions such as assistance calls and meets accessibility requirements such as Austria’s Federal Disability Equality Act.

In Düsseldorf, METTLER TOLEDO will also be launching its new modular and powerful software suite MTRS for efficient weighing and configuration management. MTRS manages comprehensive software distribution rollouts in the blink of an eye, with marketing and category management also benefiting from easy access to all devices on the sales floor. Retailers can use MTRS to centrally manage their METTLER TOLEDO devices throughout their entire life cycle. Lutz Nungesser: “MTRS doesn’t just seamlessly connect weighing infrastructure to the retailer’s ERP system.
We see a lot of potential for the suite to open doors to Retail 4.0 concepts.”
