MAJOR INNOVATION IN FLOORING: TARKETT AND PHILIPS LIGHTING LAUNCH LED LUMINOUS VINYL FLOORING

Philips Lighting and Tarkett introduce vinyl flooring using connected LED technology to interact with customers to improve their experience

Euroshop 2017, Düsseldorf, Germany –– The groundbreaking new flooring combines specially created vinyl tiles embedded with cutting-edge LED technology allowing retailers to interact with customers and guide them through any store or building. It has been developed in close collaboration with Tarkett, a global leader in innovative and sustainable solutions for flooring and sport surfaces, and Philips Lighting, a global leader in Lighting.

Get connected with vinyl flooring

The new Luminous vinyl flooring, principally aimed at retail and hospitality environments, enables the broadcast of luminous messages, animations and adverts on the vinyl floor to provide unique customer experiences and help drive sales.

“We are passionate about helping our clients to create unique spaces with our flooring solutions in all kind of sectors such as retail, hospitality and offices where differentiation and brand identity are key. With Luminous vinyl flooring we take our “Unique Spaces” innovation strategy to the next level allowing flooring to display dynamic messages or animations and to grab people’s attention in an unprecedented way,” says Anne-Christine Ayed, EVP Research, Innovation and Environment at Tarkett.

Luminous vinyl flooring is available in a wide variety of decors and modern finishes, such as wood, mineral effects and graphic designs. The vinyl flooring is made using an innovative light translucent formula enabling glowing effects. The connected LED lights in the flooring allow pre-programmed or personalized displays by the tap of the smartphone screen or the click of a mouse. Also, real-time Internet content is displayable, as the cloud-based content management system can link to an external social media channel such as a Twitter feed.

“Increasingly light is being embedded into floors, walls and ceilings. This latest innovation with Tarkett extends this trend and offers new ways to engage shoppers, visitors and employees. Light can be used to welcome and guide people, alert them to special offers and even advertise. When connected to the web any kind of dynamic real-time information can be displayed and remote access allows the retailer to program multiple branches,” says Dr. Bernd Voelpel, General Manager Luminous at Philips Lighting

How it started

The collaboration between Tarkett and Philips Lighting started in 2013 by introducing Luminous carpets with Desso in Europe, extended to Tandus carpet in North America, both brands being part of Tarkett. Several offices and show venues have chosen this unique solution for personal welcome messages, branding and guiding.

Euroshop 2017

Luminous vinyl flooring is showcased amongst other pioneering lighting and flooring innovations at Euroshop 2017, the world’s leading trade fair for retail in Düsseldorf, Germany. Please visit the Philips Lighting stand at Messe Düsseldorf, Hall 9, stand B40 or the Tarkett booth 10C40 in Hall 10.

SENSORIAL ART INSTALLATION UNVEILED TO CELEBRATE TARKETT’S STUNNING iD MIXONOMI COLLECTION

A stunning installation created by Parisian design studio, 5.5, is being unveiled on Tarkett’s stand at this year’s Euroshop (Booth 10C40, Hall 10).  Celebrating creative expression, the striking design, with its poetic cloud of intricate vinyl shapes, has been inspired by Tarkett’s daring new Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) collection, iD Mixonomi.  Previous designs created by the multi-award winning team at 5.5 include imaginative collaborations for Veuve Cliquot, Nespresso, Renault, Oberflex and iconic French Duralex glasses.

As well as experiencing the immersive art installation, visitors to the booth will be invited to explore iD Mixonomi. Part of Tarkett’s successful ‘Floor in the new Playground’ concept, the daring new collection offers architects and designers unparalleled opportunities to push the boundaries with LVT. Not only can they have fun creating expressive designs across the floor, designers can also easily achieve unique, personalised flooring – perfect for unique customer experiences in shops, stores, hospitality and leisure.

Within the collection an outstanding palette of 33 colours has been developed by international colour expert agency, Peclers. An array of hues, inspired by travel, have been curated to stimulate the imagination: calm and cosy colourways associated with Scandinavian boutique hotels; sumptuous shades reflected in Tuscan pastry shop windows; bold accents borrowed from the meandering alleyways of an Indian tea market; elegant tones capturing the corners of a Savile Row tailor shop.

Equally compelling are the innovative patterns and shapes in the iD Mixonomi collection, presenting designers with an irresistible opportunity to experiment with the art of mixing and matching to create unique designs. Subtle patterns and shapes can be effortlessly combined – from simple mono shape layouts, to multiple shapes and colour formats – all working perfectly with Tarkett’s existing iD Inspiration standard plank and tile shapes.

To further inspire striking floor designs Tarkett has created an online library of patterns and layouts for iD Mixonomi, along with a configurator and digital visualiser  - which is being launched shortly at www.idmixonomi.tarkett.com - to help designers create dynamic pattern and colour combinations.

Speaking about the inspiration behind the collection Florian Bougault, Art Director, Tarkett Stores & Shops, Hospitality and Leisure says: “iD Mixonomi is an ambitious collection – a real game changer for modular vinyl flooring - with a design aesthetic that manages to be bold, creative and playful. It’s the creative vinyl we’ve all been waiting for – authentic and celebratory – with endless opportunities to create unique flooring schemes.”

He adds: “We wanted to mark the launch at Euroshop with something unique – a sensorial design very much in the spirit of Floor is the New Playground. The collaboration with the inspirational design team of 5.5 was a perfect fit and we’re looking forward to welcoming visitors to the stand to be part of the immersive experience.”

Anthony Lebossé, co-owner of Parisian studio, 5.5, added: "With the new ID Mixonomi, we had real potential for creative expression in our hands: rich patterns, a large palette of colours - it's a great start for an explosion of ideas.”

Tarkett is hosting a number of activities on the booth over the five days at Euroshop and invites visitors to meet the designers behind the new collection, as well team members from 5.5 Design Studio and Peclers. VIP receptions are taking place and on 6 and 7th March at 17.00 to 18.00 hours.

More information on iD Mixonomi, along with other LVT designs, is also available on the booth, including full details on the functional benefits of the collections: low VOC’s - contributing to better indoor air quality; manufactured using phthalate free technology; TOPCLEAN XP™ PUR reinforcement – a tough, hardwearing surface which reduces the need for water, energy and chemical detergents for the life of the product. The collection will be available in September 2017.
