Sportalm and Koppermann sign a cooperation agreement

Since the founding of Sportalm in 1953, the paths of Koppermann and Sportalm, two successful companies with long traditions in their respective fields, have crossed many times. At the end of 2013 the highly flexible and configurable PLM/PDM solution of Tex-Define was able to win over Ms. Ulli Ehrlich, Mr. Wilhelm Ehrlich, Ms. Brigitte Kurt and the R&D and IT teams and convinced them to enter into cooperation with Koppermann.

The final decision in Koppermann’s favor was based on its many years of experience in the field of fashion IT, on its excellent reputation in the industry (all the big players use Koppermann solutions) and on the many joint projects it has successfully carried out.

“I am very pleased to welcome our new “family member”. Sportalm is a pioneer in Austrian fashion and sportswear at the very highest quality level. It is also a company with which my father already had good contacts,” Wolfgang Koppermann stressed. “We are proud that our team will be able to demonstrate its enthusiasm, passion and skills while supporting our partner Sportalm in its innovative processes.”

Sportalm in brief:

For more than 60 years Sportalm has stood for originality, passion, zest and Alpine flair in combination with the renowned Kitzbühel lifestyle: a mixture of glamor, sports, fashion, tradition and Alpine costume. Innovative functional materials are treated in tried and trusted craftsmanship – a modern design that unashamedly makes use of its historic roots. The result is inimitable clothing with a wide range of womenswear, skiwear and Alpine costume, with a love of detail, in high quality with an authentic look and 100% made in Europe.

Koppermann and Marc O’POLO implement a PLM process optimization overnight

MARC O’POLO International GmbH with its HQ in Stephanskirchen has long been one of the most successful companies in the segment of modern premium casual wear. They opened their first mono-label stores in China in 2014. The corporation’s success story is now being continued in 2015 with market-specific collections prepared in cooperation with MARC O’POLO Hong Kong Ltd.Obtaining specific information for the Chinese market such as labeling standards, safety types and different sizing requirements represented a special challenge for the development of the collection.

It was necessary to record this information twice for one and the same article both for MARC O’POLO International GmbH and for MARC O’POLO Hong Kong Ltd. The collection therefore had to be developed in parallel for two different companies (or also clients). Since such a fundamental conversion to this variable collection development would have had a serious effect on ongoing operations, the system conversion of the product lifecycle management (PLM) solution TEX DEFINE™ could only take place over one single night so that work on the collection could restart punctually the very next morning.

As long-term partners, Koppermann and MARC O’POLO were able to prepare a common procedural plan, to create a test environment and to finalize the process conversion. Not one single user experienced even the slightest blip in their daily work.
The data transfer to the existing INTEX ERP system was seamlessly integrated into the new process over the same time period.

This far-reaching process change was able to be implemented in live operation thanks to the highly flexible database structures of Koppermann TEX DEFINE™ – no other PLM system would have been able to carry out such an optimization in such a short time.

Both sides are now looking forward to further exciting projects after mastering this challenge. For one thing is certain – a PLM solution which is so close to the pulse of a corporation will also power every other further development.

Success Story Huber Holding – underwear is our passion

Rich in tradition, Austrian company HUBER HOLDING can look back on 100 years of history during which it has made a formidable name for itself by manufacturing, marketing and selling underwear and other clothing items. The extensive product ranges of its subsidiaries “SKINY”, “HANRO”, “HUBER” and “HOM” are situated in the mid to high price segment and comprise daywear, sleepwear, swimwear and lingerie.

Koppermann and HUBER HOLDING could already look back on a long-standing and successful partnership in creative clothing designs using TEX-DESIGN™ in 2008. The final decision in favour of the product life-cycle management (PLM) system TEX-DEFINE™ from the house of Koppermann was therefore an easy one.

“The basis for the decision was essentially the efficient linking of graphic and descriptive data that could subsequently be used in the ERP system. Other factors included flexible design options with regard to content and user interfaces that enabled us to implement all of our specifications without much effort and to modify and amend them retrospectively”, says Markus Burgstaller, Head of IT and Customer Services at HUBER HOLDING.

HUBER had clearly defined objectives with regard to introducing the software. Future collections should be planned using the new PLM system; comparisons between seasons should be possible; calculations and the evaluation of data from the pool of sales goods should also be possible. The central points were planning the collections and ranges. To this end, a collection framework plan that was precisely adapted to the clothing manufacturer’s requirements was developed in TEX-DEFINE in close collaboration with HUBER HOLDING. It is now used to break down the fashion series and create models. Today, HUBER’s PLM system from Koppermann is used not only to log and manage all product data and to carry out collection planning, but also to maintain supplier data directly in the live system.

The system is continuously improved and adapted to processes in-house by HUBER’s dedicated administrators. Permanent up-to-date availability and strategic data analysis are no longer a challenge with the PLM system from Koppermann.

HUBER HOLDING AG owns ARULA – a full-stage production company that produces for the corporate brands “SKINY”, “HANRO”, “HUBER” and “HOM” and also for third parties. All four clothing brands have their own independent sales and marketing organisations that have their headquarters in Mäder (Vorarlberg, Austria) and Marseilles (France). The four brands differ with regard to their specific product portfolios, target groups and international alignment.

Clothing products from HUBER, HANRO, SKINY and HOM are sold in 50 countries around the world. HUBER TRICOT acts as a service partner to the subsidiaries and provides services such as EDP, sales logistics, finance and accounting, purchasing and human resources. The HUBER Group also has 72 proprietary HUBER SHOP outlets in Austria. HUBER HOLDING is headquartered in Götzis and has a production facility in Mäder. The company employs a workforce of around 1320 and achieves an annual turnover of 130 million euro.

Success Story Popken Fashion Group – Success with Style

Based in Rastede, Lower Saxony (Germany), POPKEN FASHION GROUP has for many years counted as the leading provider of larger sizes in ladies fashion. Customers love the north German company not only for its exclusive fashion in larger sizes, but also for its tradition and passion for cuts and colour designs.

POPKEN FASHION GROUP has used Koppermann‘s creative solution TEX-DESIGN™ since 2010 to optimise the artistic design of its collections and stay abreast of the fast-paced fashion segment and meet increasing product requirements. The necessity to digitise the entire product development process was also recognised in parallel, and so the company went in search of an efficient and powerful PLM solution capable of taking on the challenge.

Koppermann was able to secure the deal during the selection process thanks to its flexible database structure and seamless continuity, ultimately replacing the existing third-party solution and the time-consuming work with Excel lists over the course of a multi-stage project. Comprehensive work process restructuring and standardisation led to a noticeable reduction in the amount of work for users and sustainable savings in time and resources with regard to product development. „In addition to the highly flexible solution and comprehensive expert know-how, what impressed us most were the cooperation based on partnership and the outstanding project management“, comments Barbara Arnold-Reinschmidt, purchasing manager at POPKEN FASHION GROUP.

All products, regardless of whether full package or outward processing, are initially recorded and defined using the Koppermann PLM solution. All the necessary steps in the workflow process are subsequently monitored. The Koppermann PLM solution assists users with calendar management
and tracking via an internal Action Calendar that is centrally defined at the start of the season. The models themselves independently define the Action Calendar applicable to them on the basis of specific characteristics and in doing so generate their respective target date. Other quality assurance matters such as a comprehensive incoming goods inspection or sample assessment are also logged and tracked centrally within the Koppermann solution.

Another successful project milestone was initiated through the acquisition of the GINA LAURA brand. The existing PLM system was successfully replaced by Koppermann in 2016 during the course of the acquisition to create a continuous, cross-company PLM landscape. Employees at GINA LAURA are currently preparing the first collection using the Koppermann solution.
he PLM solution in place at POPKEN FASHION GROUP is under continuous further development, regardless of the fact that the initial core project has already been successfully completed. The Koppermann project team helps the system‘s administrators to sustainably handle continuously changing market requirements in a future-oriented fashion.

Koppermann offers its customers long-term partnerships and a progressive evolution of its comprehensive solution. It is therefore hardly surprising that POPKEN FASHION GROUP and Koppermann are already starting a new process optimisation project: the implementation of the Fabric Library that enables all the relevant fabric types to be logged and managed across seasons. This provides an optimum overview for everyone involved in the creative process.

Innovative with a passion for success with style!

POPKEN FASHION GROUP consists of the fashion enterprises ULLA POPKEN GmbH and GINA LAURA GmbH & Co. KG. The two companies own the proprietary brands ULLA POPKEN, GINA LAURA, JP1880 and STUDIO UNTOLD. The success of the four labels is founded on long-standing experience, family roots and a keen entrepreneurial spirit. The group‘s core competence lies in the production and distribution of ladies fashion in larger sizes.

As a multi-channel company, POPKEN FASHION GROUP today distributes its fashion range throughout the world – in more than 30 countries and around 650 outlets, by mail order and Internet sales and through selected B2B partners. The group employs a combined workforce of more than 4,000 employees.

About us

Company details

From small acorns... Koppermann can rightly claim to have been there right from the start when the fashion and fabric industries took their first steps into the IT era. Wolfgang Koppermann and his business partner Andreas Lachner recognized the potential of CAD systems for the industry as early as the late 1980s and developed TEX-DESIGN™ - the first graphics software for creation and fabric processing. Customers quickly discovered the benefits for their day-to-day processes and more and more design departments made the switch from a design pad to a PC. Koppermann has also set technological standards with the introduction of TEX-DEFINE™, one of the world's leading applications for product data management and life-cycle management. Clients love the much shorter development time and the reduced number of samples while enjoying sustained support for their success. In 2001 Koppermann demonstrated its natural understanding of visualization and of what really interests manufacturers - "What does tomorrow's collection look like?" - with the launch of the 3D Planning and visual merchandising solution TEX-STORE™. Companies are now able to develop virtual collection programs in 3D and to take important decisions before the start of the patterning process.
