Rock the Ballet: Turning Ballet Upside Down
?LINE_1>
Rasta Thomas and his energetic "Bad Boys of Dance" are returning to the Capitol Theatre, with their action-packed new show, Rock The Ballet, which has been capturing the hearts of dance-interested audiences. More than 100,000 enthusiastic spectators have offered up euphoric applause for the young dance company at their guest performances in Europe.
Inspired by the driving rhythms of popular songs by Lenny Kravitz, U2 and Michael Jackson, the young New York company's abandoned passion for dancing explodes in fantastic, acrobatic-like body constellations. The prerequisites for executing this boldly accelerated ballet rock fantasy are exceptional precision, absolute body control and the highest level of athletic performance. Rasta Thomas' dancers fulfil these requirements completely and without exception: they have all completed rigorous classic ballet training at the finest schools in the USA. "At times it seems that the young men from New York are breaking the law of gravity," raves the renowned Neue Züricher newspaper. And reporting on this thrilling pulsation of emotions, eroticism and humour, Entertainment Tonight gushes, "It is like bringing the best of Baryschnikow, Bruce Lee and Michael Jackson to the stage."
Rock The Ballet is the groundbreaking reconciliation between ballet and the present day; a beguiling debauchery for a young audience and a promising tale for ballet connoisseurs; an unusual and energetic show that combines spectacular choreography with fascinating video projections and popular music.
Rasta Thomas is the artistic visionary and founder behind the "Amazing Boys of Dance" company born in 2007. He collaborated with his partner, choreographer Adrienne Canterna-Thomas, in realizing his vision of 21st century ballet. Inspired by the dance contests so popular in the USA, which combine various dance styles, Rasta and Adrienne have created their very own dance language that combines elements of ballet, modern, hip-hop, jazz, acrobatics and even martial arts techniques.
