Designing intuitive interfaces with Web-Extensions 2.0

Videos, images and interactive applications integrated in modern interfaces: Internet and smart phone users utilize the many options they are offered thousands of times a day. Bank customers also expect to see the technologies and operating concepts they are familiar with when using self-service systems. That is why Wincor Nixdorf is presenting its ProTopas/Web-Extensions 2.0 software, which enables a fast, flexible and uncomplicated design of intuitive user interfaces and supports a wide variety of innovative options for self-service touch applications.

“In the past, banks using the NDC or DDC protocol, in particular, often had to struggle with limitations when it came to designing user interfaces, integrating new services and customizing processes”, explains Udo Pape-Kampmeier, product manager for application software at Wincor Nixdorf.
Wincor Nixdorf introduced Web-Extensions as early as 1996, thus becoming a pioneer in the use of Web technologies on self-service systems. Today, Wincor Nixdorf’s Web-Extensions are found on more than 100,000 systems worldwide.

ProTopas/Web-Extensions 2.0 enables designers to create new interfaces using standard image editing programs such as Photoshop and import them in design tools such as Microsoft Expression Blend. With the help of the tool, interface components such as value selection buttons can be linked to their corresponding function quickly and easily. To do this, designers do not need any special programming know-how. Nor do programmers need any special designer skills. This simplifies the division of labor and makes processes more efficient.

“Web-Extensions 2.0 creates completely new possibilities for our customers. Particularly when combined with ProFlex, Wincor Nixdorf’s application software for NDC and DDC protocols, it enables banks to customize the user interfaces and services of their self-service systems and free themselves completely from the display and state download limitations of switch protocols like NDC”, says Udo Pape-Kampmeier.
